So today I will clarify to all of you guys about the types of the silver catfish and other information that related to this type of fish. I had made a lot of research to get the information about the types of silver catfish or which is known as " Patin Fish" in Temerloh. Based on my research there are 7 types of silver catfish that have in Temerloh.

The 7 types of silver catfish are ;

  • Patin sangkar 
  • Patin buah ( scientific name : pangasius nasutus )
  • Patin muncung (  scientific name : helicophagus wandersii )
  • Patin sungai
  • Patin juara ( scientific name : pseudolais micronemus )
  • Patin kolam 
  • Patin king
The place where is silver catfish located in Temerloh is at Pahang river and Semantan river.

The best Patin fish to make a cuisine is should be weigh between 1.5 kg to 1.8 kg.
The most famous silver catfish in Temerloh is Patin sangkar and Patin buah. The wholesale price for patin sangkar is RM 13.00 per kilogram while the market price is RM 17.00 per kilogram. The price of silver catfish is not a fixed price.

For your information silver catfish baby takes about 8 months to turns adult. So, it is not easy to take care this fish at the cage. Moreover, Patin Sangkar usually eat pallets fish and there are two brands of pallet fish. I had show the picture of the pallet fish on my video so you can take a look on it.

If you guys are interested to be a silver catfish breeders there are many consequences that you guys might experience while raising this fish. For example, the most challenging part as the silver catfish breeders is silver catfish got illness attacked, water level problem and sometimes fish attacked by the other animals.

      Patin Muncung is the most expensive among the 7 types because the price for patin muncung can cost between RM 280.00-RM 300.00 per kg.

      we can differentiate the types of silver catfish by looking at the body color and the appearance. Patin Sangkar usually colored black & white, Patin Kolam usually colored in black only, Patin Sungai looks bright or grey and Patin Muncung is the size of the fish mouth is relatively small and there are two veins in the mouth of the fish.

Today I will like to write about the recipes of Gulai Patin Tempoyak INGREDIENTS ; 1 silver catfish ( 1.2 - 1.5 kg ) 15-20 cili padi ( you can mix the cili padi with thai chili ) turmeric live 2-3 inches 2 or 3 senduk tempoyak salt kesum leaves 2 asam keping  600 - 800ml water COOKING METHOD ; Cut and wash silver catfish with lemon acid. Add the prepared fish to the basin. Punch the chilli fire and a little salt. When it is crunched enter the turmeric live. Prepare a pot on the kitchen. Put 600 - 800ml of water into a pot. Add the pounded chilli with salt and turmeric into the pot. If it is not yellow you can enter a little bit of turmeric powder. Open the gas stove. Add salt and asam keping into the pot. When the water has boiled add the silver catfish into the pot. Slow down the fire. Then add the kesum leaves. Mix well and wait for the silver catfish to cook until the water is boiling. Close fire and ready to serve with rice.

Recipes of  Goreng Berlada Patin Fish Ingredients ; 1 silver catfish dried peppers ( blended ) 3 cloves of garlic 5 cloves of red onion 1 onion 1/2 inches of ginger salt and sugar tomato Ingredients for pounding ; 3 cloves of garlic 5 cloves of red onion 1/2 inches of ginger Cooking method ; Garlic, red onion and ginger are pounded using a mortar Clean the fish and cut into small portions. Mix the fish with turmeric powder and salt. Fry the silver catfish first. When the silver catfish had been finish fry put it into a plate. Cut the onion into pieces.  Provide a pan on the gas stove. Add oil. Heat the pan. Then, insert the pounded ingredient into the pan. When the aroma of ingredients had smelled you can put the onion that had been cut and dried peppers into the pan. Also, put the tomatoes into the pan. Then, put some salt and sugar adequately. Wait until cooked. Put it on the silver catfish on the plate. Ready to serve.
